THE SECTION

The Pharmacology and Toxicology Section of the Department of Experimental Medicine is located in the “Ex-Sutter” Building (3rd and 4th floor; 1200 m2) in Viale Cembrano 4 (Genova-Sturla), very close to the motorway barrier of Genova-Nervi. Overall, our Section comprises 7 laboratories for in vitro and in vivo neuropharmacological/toxicological studies, two of which (Neuropsychopharmacology and Cellular and Molecular Neurotoxicology) are officially recorded in the Ministerial Register for Highly Qualified Laboratories. In addition, there are several on-site central facilities including cellular biology lab, hplc room, RIA room, cold room, dark room, radioisotope room, behaviour room, animal house, library, computer room, scientific and administrative secretary’s office.

The Section research staff has been involved for more than 30 years in studies concerning the mechanisms of cell to cell signalling in the central nervous system using a variety of experimental models, from in vitro synaptic boutons, isolated from adult native neurons, to in vivo neuronal networks.
